A garden without flowers

Our friends Mark and Eva, who now live in Washington state, came to visit, and we ate hamburgers cooked outside on the grill and Greek potato salad that I made with a new recipe. Then, our friends Ken and Gail came over, and the six of us shared conversation and chocolate cake.

The next day, Eva and I drove to Granbury and spent the day and the night with our friends Genevieve and Gary. On the way, we saw fields of bluebonnets. And, when we arrived, we could look out the window and see lots of orange Indian Paintbrush flowers growing in the backyard.

I was delighted by the company of my friends—and by the beautiful spring flowers. And, I was reminded of the quote from Thomas Jefferson: “Life without friends is like a garden without flowers.”
