Malala’s going to Oxford

Malala’s going to be an Oxford scholar.

The antiquarian print of an Oxford scholar hanging in my office—purchased years ago when I visited England—shows a male student in a red robe.

Malala Yousafza, 20 now, doesn’t fit the stereotype of an Oxford scholar or a Muslim young woman.

And, she’s not interested in doing what some people think she’s supposed to do. She will continue to advocate for girls, Malala told National Public Radio when she celebrated her birthday in July 2017.

“Educating girls can make the country more productive,” she said. “It can protect them from any kind of violence….Some people in society do not understand that.”
