How much exercise do you need?
Sports medicine researchers have some answers.
If you sit four hours a day, you need to do at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. If you work at your desk eight hours a day, you should get one hour of exercise a day.
Those suggestions come from Ulf Ekelund, a professor at the Norwegian School of Sports Sciences, and they’re based on a study of about a million people. Ekelund found a reduction or even elimination of the risk of death from heart disease, diabetes and some cancers in people who get these suggested amounts of exercise.
You need to walk briskly, but the exercise doesn’t have to be rigorous or all at one time.
We read about the study in an article in the August 2, 2016, issue of The Dallas Morning News.
