Do what you love?

“Do what you love, love what you do” has become the unofficial work mantra for our time, writes Esther Cepeda in the January 27, 2014, issue of The Dallas Morning News.

But there are problems with this love-and-passion philosophy, Cepeda says. “It substitutes easy, positive emotions for the physical acts of courage, determination, discipline and excellence necessary to have the privilege of doing what you love….

“Talent gets you started. Courage and luck move you forward. But, in the pursuit of success, love and passion aren’t reliable substitutes for hard work.”
