I finished helping my son Jay move into his college apartment, which is on the second floor up a steep staircase, just in time to help my daughter Mary Elizabeth move into her new apartment, which is on the second floor up an even steeper staircase.
Plus, Mary Elizabeth’s apartment is on the back side of the apartment complex next to a tall fence. We had to carry everything around the apartment complex and then up the stairs. And, it was at least 105 degrees on the days I was helping her move.
I had planned to spend two days helping Mary Elizabeth shop, move and get settled, but I spent four.
“Moving always takes longer than you think it’s going to take,” I told a friend.
“Everything takes longer than you think it will,” she replied.
That’s true. And life is full of steep staircases. Often, however, when the job is done and you’ve climbed the staircase, you can enjoy a feeling of accomplishment.
