Eat five fruits and vegetables

I have a friend who is a vegan and another who takes a handful of nonprescription pills every morning. Newspaper, magazines, books and friends are full of advice about what I should eat and what I shouldn’t eat.

What should I eat?

I was reassured by a recent study, reported in the August 4, 2014, issue of The Boston Globe, that indicates we should eat five servings of fruits and vegetables every day. Just five!

The Harvard School of Public Health study suggests that eating five servings could lower your risk of dying by 25 percent.

“The reduction in mortality plateaued at five servings a day, and five a day is a good target to achieve maximum health benefits,” says Frank Hu, the study coauthor.
