Sometimes you need to vent

As some of you know, my daughter has been battling major health issues for almost a year and a half and I have been her major supporter—going with her to the numerous doctors’ appointments, cooking her meals, trying to encourage her.

One day recently I just felt tired. I wasn’t sure I could go to one more doctor’s appointment.

I also felt guilty about feeling discouraged. I tried to smile and act more positive, but finally I said to my husband Tom, “I don’t know if I can keep doing this.”

“You have to,” he said, firmly. “Yes, you can do it.”

But he understood why I felt tired and he listened to me while I talked about my frustrations. Next time I feel as if I can’t keep going, I’m going to remember to share my frustrations with Tom. I’m not going to feel guilty. It’s okay to feel tired and discouraged sometimes.

I know that I’ll keep supporting my daughter because I love her and she needs my help. But I also realize that sometimes I need someone to support me, too.
