Once a week during this school year, I have visited a junior high student at a school only a few blocks from my house. She will be in the eighth grade next year, and I have been her mentor since she was in the fourth grade.
I want to be sure that she has plenty to read during the summer. She is now reading the third book in the Harry Potter series. So, I have given her the rest of the books in the series—and a poem by David McCord.
Books fall open,
you fall in,
delighted where
you’ve never been;
hear voices not once
heard before,
reach world on world
through door on door;
find unexpected
keys to things
locked up beyond
Imaginings.
