During the next several weeks, we’re going to share some holiday lessons we’ve learned.
My husband and I were busy preparing our Thanksgiving feast when we realized that Jason, who shares an college apartment with my son, Jay, had never heard the story of the first Thanksgiving celebrated by the pilgrims.
It wasn’t a big surprise. Jason, who is from China, has been studying in the United States only a year and a half. And, of course, he never ate turkey, dressing and pecan pie until he arrived here.
I immediately stopped cooking, found a book with illustrations of the pilgrims and Native Americans eating their feast and read the story of the first Thanksgiving to Jason.
For me, it was a reminder to remember the real meaning of the holiday season.
