During the next several weeks, we’re going to share some holiday lessons we’ve learned.
I just received another catalog filled with beautiful things that I don’t need and that my family and friends don’t need either. And, even though it’s still the first part of December, the catalog advised in big letters on the cover: “It’s not too late! Find great last-minute gifts for everyone on your list.”
What’s a great gift? My husband Tom just received a wonderful Christmas present. His daughter who visited him during the Thanksgiving holiday is coming back to Dallas in December for another visit.
Tom’s delight at the prospect of seeing his daughter and her family again reminded me that the best gifts are not things bought from a catalog or in a store. They’re gifts that only you can give. Taking time to read Christmas stories to your children. Visiting a friend. Or, making cookies to share with your neighbors.
