Sometimes it’s good to share the stress

I still remember the joys of parenting two lively young children—and also I remember a few stressful days.

My husband Jerry was traveling a great deal for business, and I was busy with my own small business, and we were trying to spend as much time as possible with Mary Elizabeth and Jay

Anyone who has tried to combine children and careers knows that the combination can be stressful. As some of us know, it’s much easier if both parents share the stress.

That’s why I was pleased to read in an article in the Dallas Morning News (July 26,2011) that more men are feeling the stress of juggling work and home.

According to a new study by the New York-based Work and Family Institute, titled “The New Male Mystique,” more men today define an ideal man not only by his ability to support his family with his work, but by his role as an active and involved father, spouse or partner,  and son.

Good parents will always feel stressful at times. Parenting is a demanding job. But, having two parents who share the stress is ideal. And, parents, men and women, who are involved enough to feel the stress of parenting, also will experience all of the rewards and joys of parenting.
