High heels—no longer required

When Nicola Thorp reported for work as a temporary receptionist in the financial center in London, her supervisor told her that she had to wear shoes with heels at least two inches high.

Thorp stood up for her rights to wear flat shoes and started a petition that gathered 150,000 signatures.

More than two years later, two parliamentary committees have concluded that the supervisor broke English law because the requirement to wear heels is outmoded and sexist.

We read about Nicola Thorp in the January 26, 2017, issue of The Dallas Morning News.
