Eager for new adventures

While I was watching my daughter, Mary Elizabeth, walk across the stage and receive her master’s degree recently, I remembered the day she started school at Children’s House Montessori School.

I was nervous that day as I drove her to school for the first time because I was sure she would be anxious about leaving her mother and I thought she might cry. Because her birthday is in September, she was still two-years-old, only a few days shy of three.

As I pulled into the driveway, one of the teachers opened the passenger’s side of our car.

Mary Elizabeth jumped out of the car, eagerly, without looking back at me or saying good-bye. She was ready for school. Her mother wasn’t quite as ready as she was. I drove home with tears in my eyes.

I am happy to report that my daughter still approaches life with the same eagerness and confidence. Her mother, of course, still feels a little nervous about her new adventures.
