The amazing Helen Keller

We were reading a book about a girl who is deaf when I asked Elizabeth if she knew the story of Helen Keller.

Elizabeth, the elementary student I mentor every week, had never heard of Helen Keller.

As I struggled to explain the story of this woman who was deaf and blind, I realized anew what an amazing person Helen Keller was. She was the first person who was deaf and blind to earn a bachelor of arts degree. She wrote books, gave lectures and campaigned for women’s suffrage. She is still an inspiration for all of us.

These are some of my favorite Helen Keller quotes.

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.

One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar.

Keep your face to the sun and you will never see the shadows.

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.
