Amazed forever

When she was in junior high, people always asked the poet Naomi Shihab Nye what she wanted to be when she grew up.

In her book A Maze Me, Nye writes that they never asked her “who or how do you want to be.”

And, she adds, “I might have said, ‘Amazed forever.’ I wanted to be curious, interested, interesting, hopeful—and a little bit odd was okay, too.”
