Chocolate Santas are on sale at the drug store, wreaths hang at the upscale grocery store and my grocery store has a whole aisle of Christmas decorations.
What happened to Thanksgiving?
I am going to pause and reflect on the beauty of the fallen leaves in my front yard and all of my other blessings before I begin the harried hurry of the holiday season.
As Henry David Thoreau wrote on October 17, 1858, “Methinks the reflections are never purer and more distinct than now at the season of the fall of the leaf, just before the cool twilight has come, when the air has a finer grain—just as our mental reflections are more distinct at this season of the year, when the evenings grow cool and lengthen.”

In the Dallas Morning News this last Sunday there was a nice quote in the “Points” section:
“We won’t be decking our halls until Friday, Nov.29. Why? We just like the idea of celebrating one holiday at a time.” – From a sign posted at Nordstrom stores, bucking an industry trend by remaining closed on Thanksgiving and putting up Christmas decorations Friday.
My husband said,”pull out your Nordstrom credit card! That’s where we are doing all our Christmas shopping this year!”
