“Continuous small treats”

On Thanksgiving Day, we need to be thankful for all of our blessings. Big blessings like family and friends and plenty of food to eat.

We need to remember little blessings, too. Small blessings like waking up with a hug from your husband, walking your dog before the busy part of the day begins and eating mashed potatoes with plenty of gravy.

As Iris Murdoch once said, “One of the secrets of a happy life is continuous small treats.”

Gillian McCombs, dean and director of the Southern Methodist University Central University Libraries, used that quote recently in her introduction of Justin Cronin when he talked at SMU about his new book The Twelve.
