Warm relationships

What matters most? Relationships, says George Valiant.

Valiant, the author of a new book Triumphs of Experience, has been director of the Grant Study for more than three decades. The study, one of the longest-running longitudinal studies of human development, has followed 268 Harvard undergraduate men since 1938.

“The 75 years and $20 million expended on the Grant Study points…to a straightforward five-word conclusion: ‘Happiness is love,’” Valiant says in an article in the May 2013 issue of The Atlantic.

Valiant stresses that there is a “powerful correlation” between the warmth of your relationships and your health and happiness in old age.”

And, of course, warm relationships add to your health and happiness no matter what your age.
