I’m counting Weight Watcher points, and my dietician has suggested that I should count grams of carbohydrates because I’m prediabetic—and now she wants me to count grams of protein to make sure I’m getting enough protein.

Just when I am feeling really frustrated, I found an article in The Dallas Morning News about “orthorexia.” The article talks about a woman who found herself crying in the produce department of the grocery store because she couldn’t decide if it would be healthier to buy kale or chard.

Basically, orthorexia is being “consumed with a health food diet.” And, one of the symptoms is “a lot of counting and calculating.”

After consulting with my sensible husband, I’ve decided to use points and grams as guidelines–but also to use commonsense to make healthy choices–and to eat a lot of vegetables.
