Happy Birthday, Weight Watchers

The 50th anniversary issue of Weight Watchers magazine talks about “Losing through the decades.”

“People have done some pretty outrageous things in the name of slimming down, from popping dangerous diet pills to eating cabbage soup for breakfast, lunch and dinner,” writer Hallie Levine Sklar concludes.

What’s the best approach? “We know now that the key to successful long-term weight loss is eating a variety of real foods—fruits, veggies, whole grains, low-fat protein—in moderation,” says Dr. George Blackburn, director of the Division of Nutrition at Harvard Medical School.

I’m celebrating with Weight Watchers. Later this year, I’ll complete 10 years of following its commonsense approach to eating. With the help of Weight Watchers, I lost more than 50 pounds, and I haven’t gained it back.
